Undertaking a kambo ceremony can be an intense experience. 

Before your kambo cleanse commences, you will be asked to drink between 1.5-2 litres of water 15 minutes before the kambo is applied. This is to provide the kambo with a medium to carry the toxins out of the body through purging. You will have been fasting from food for a minimum of eight hours and minimizing water intake prior to your treatment. 

The kambo is applied directly through burning the gates on the upper layer of the skin and from there it will be distributed throughout the body via the lymphatic system. 

As kambo enters the body, it will cause your blood pressure to rise. This can result in you experiencing increased heart rate, a pounding or rushing sensation in your head, skin tingling, dizziness and some swelling of the face and/or throat. This is a completely normal part of the process, and occurs due to the effects of the peptides within the kambo secretion.

At this point, the kambo will be coursing through your body, scanning for problem areas that it will work on. It is quite common to feel this happen, and to experience some pain or other sensation in these areas. It is all part of the kambo magic! A common example would be feeling the kambo travelling to the site of an old injury.

It is common to feel cold and clammy, and it is at this point that most people will begin the purging process. This will usually include a physical purge of vomiting and/or diarrhoea as the toxins are removed from your body via the water you ingested, but may also include sweating, shaking or an emotional purge. This purging process, whilst mainly a physiological experience, also allows us to release what is no longer serving us on an emotional, energetic and spiritual level. This can result in a feeling of deeper spiritual connection to one’s self. Kambo acts intelligently, listening to our intentions and scanning the body for what needs to be released. 

While the experience is not for everyone, Kambo’s cleansing effects begin within minutes of administration, and it leaves most people feeling less pain in the days and weeks after treatment.

The length of the kambo experiences varies for everyone, but will last roughly between 10-35 minutes.

Upon completion, it is good to lie down and rest for half an hour. This is an integral part of the kambo process, as it allows the body to recover and gives you a chance to integrate your experience. You may also find that the cleansing process of the kambo continues, allowing you to have emotional releases, insights and revelations. 

After your kambo ceremony,  it is advised to allow yourself the day to rest, recover and integrate your experience. Some people may feel the benefits of kambo immediately and for others these will be felt within 24-48 hours. It is also common if you have been suffering from any illnesses to experience a Herxheimer reaction for a few days after your session, that is, you may feel worse before you feel better. This is a completely normal part of working with kambo, or any other natural medicine.

The ideal course is 3 sessions with a break of several days. It’s a good idea to also use kambo as needed.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS TO KAMBO:

You may be contraindicated to receiving Kambo if you are:

• Pregnant or may become pregnant
• Nursing a child under 6 months
• Have taken 5-meo-DMT or Bufo in the last 4 weeks
• Have had serious heart problems such as bipass surgery, valve replacement, or any open chest surgery (Stints okay, mild heart attacks okay)
• Have had a stroke or blood clot
• Have had a brain aneurism, stroke or embolism
• Are taking low blood pressure medication
• Have Addison’s disease
• Have gone through chemotherapy within the last 4 weeks
• Have a history of schizophrenia, mania or psychosis
• Are under 18 years old

IDEAL KAMBO DIETARY PREPARATION FOR THE BEST EXPERIENCE:

3-7 days before treatment:

• Hydrate! Please drink at least 8-11 glasses of water a day. 

• Try and eat organic and limit contact with toxins (environmental, cleaning, “beauty”)

DO NOT CONSUME:

• Alcohol
• “Street” drugs, heroin, cocaine, etc
• Herbal medicines – prevents potential interactions
• Chemical medications
• Red Meat, Pork, Eggs, or Shellfish
• Dairy
• Artificial sweeteners
• Packaged “food” with preservatives or chemicals 
• Junk “food” + fried “food”
• Gluten and GMO wheats – difficult to digest
• Carbonated beverages 
• Sexual fasting – helpful to preserve Qi but not mandatory

Be conscious with your consumption – foods, energies, media, people, inner critic etc.

IN THE DAY OF TREATMENT FASTING IS ESSENTIAL AND MANDATORY:

• At least 48 hours beforehand – no alcohol or recreational drugs
• No food for 8-12 hours prior to your ceremony start time
• No drinking excess fluids the morning of a session – a cup of non-caffeinated herbal tea (no honey) or water is fine up to 2 hours before your session.
• No sweat lodges the week before. No water fasting, enemas, or colonics 3 days before/after. No saunas or hot tubs 1 day before/after. They disrupt your electrolyte balance, which can pose a severe risk to your health.
• Women who are menstruating – Kambo is a vasodilator, which may increase flow for 24-36 hours. You may also get your period sooner than usual.
• Wear very comfortable clothing

 

KAMBO INTEGRATION

• Do not drive if you feel weak or light headed.
• Do not operate heavy machinery, move furniture or engage in physically stressful situations within 24 hours of session.
• Re-mineralize with mineral water and or coconut water to restore vital nutrients and electrolytes.
• Hydrate! Drink 8-10+ glasses of water a day.
• Refrain from difficult to digest and or energetically dense foods for at least 24 hours (OR MORE!) such as dairy and meat.
• Do not drink alcohol or do drugs for at least 3 days after your session (better not to take at all!)
• Be conscious with your consumption of certain foods, energies, media, people etc.
• Eat organic non-processed whole foods when possible.
• Give yourself some space to process your Kambo work.
• Stay out of direct sun for 24 hours.
